Pleading for Taiwan Dogs

Pleading for Taiwan Dogs

Taiwan dogs are lively history. Their traits and characteristics should be promoted. We should not continuously fuzz over their shoulder heights, head shape, upright or semi-folded bat ears because there isn't an absolute standard, just as there isn't one in archeology.

No one has ever witnessed what the real Taiwan Dogs were like hundreds or thousands of years ago.

Excessive stubbornness hinders the progress of preservation. Insisting on ones own opinion and to ask for the minuest details is almost as ridiculous as someone retelling pillow talks of others, making Taiwan Dogs a modern farce.

What is available now are some referential evidences plus the newly bred generation. It is also proven that the new generation is superior to the previous one.

Besides the commonly acknowledged standard, the original 'true colors' of Taiwan Dogs are what we are really aiming for.

What are these 'true colors' ? They can only be found out through continuous trial and error. The quest of Taiwan Dogs cannot rely on chance.

If too much effort is superficial and not substantial, the meaning of Taiwan Dog preservation will be totally lost, resulting in another extinction of historical treasures.

The more indigenous the better

The efforts of Taiwan animal activists today are encouraging. The achievement can be seen from the issuing of Taiwan Dog Pedigree.
But the search for perfection must go on.

A careless oversight could result in an irreparable mistake. The standard to judge the purity of Native Dogs is compiled by pictures of the past decades and other circumstantial information.

This long-term research has formed a preliminary guideline. But to follow this guideline mindlessly is not good enough.
The continuous search for the origin must go on.

With the correct assumption of theirevolution process and advanced medical support from genetic engineering, the perfect Taiwan dogs may one day be achieved.

Taiwan Dogs are deeply valued

In the past, hunting and farming were two main method how people earn their food. Survival of the fittest is a timeless rule. The ancestors hunted with Taiwan Dogs as a team, and the rule of thumb was cruelty and survival.

During the hunt, Taiwan Dogs also faced life-threatening combats with their preys. They had to be strong in order to survive. Taiwan Dogs' intelligence and loyalty suited the ancestors' needs completely.

The dogs lives were glorious and courageous. They did not rely on chance but their skills and intelligence.

How to choose a Taiwan Dog

If you would like to give your family a loyal friend, Taiwan Dog should be your number one choice. It is absolutely superior to Western dogs as described earlier.

But how should one select the most suitable Taiwan Dog? Theory does not do much good here. I suggest that you go out and see as many dogs as you can and ask reputable experts because the quality of Taiwan Dogs is still unstable. Many hereditary factors are not something which can be observed from the outside.

To trained eyes, Taiwan dogs not only should have the correct appearance, but also should possess the traditional temperaments and manners. Only satisfying both the exterior and interior requirements can one be called a true Taiwan Dog. Most people only eye the exterior. Therefore, much education is still needed to understand Taiwan Dogs.

Differences about the coats

According to aboriginal elders, Taiwan dogs can be black, white, yellow, tiger-striped, black and white, red. Regardless of the color, their courage, skill and intelligence are all best of the best. Being multi-talented in many ways, Taiwan Dogs should be recognized and preserved.

A properly cared-for dog can best show its abilities. Changes in living environment and care both have significant influences on the dog's nature and cannot be overlooked. What does that have to do with its coats?

Even a pure-bred Chinese can have facial features as a Westerner. He could be gentle, kind, hard-working, resilient, have all the common Chinese traits and be called a Chinese; who can say he is not?

Therefore, the same should apply to both men and dogs; both exterior and interior should be looked at before making a judgement.

Taiwan Dog's Dignity

The historical treasure- Taiwan Dogs- originated in the five great mountain ranges of Taiwan and Huanan region of China. They are an ancient breed of many generations.

Even though there are no documented facts about them, tales and folklore are common in describing their loyalty. The most precious trait cherished by men is that they are willing to do anything for their masters, and many legends support this belief.

People applaud their devotion to men and have even erected shrines in their memories. These dogs are viewed as spiritual dogs.

Gifts from ancestors are roots of the Taiwan culture. Being the best friend of our ancestors, Taiwan dogs have the same blood with the same culture flowing in their bodies.

They are a witness to history and signify the dignity of Taiwan culture. Without proper preservation and protection, this part of culture will be lost forever to future generations. That will be a deeply regrettable thing to happen.

The best of their abilities

Taiwan Dogs-possess the most athletic built, agility, speed, and intelligence that nature can give. Their resistance to illness and coexistence with aboriginal people form their own philosophy when dealing with humans.

They not only preserved their natural survival instincts, but are also able to serve humans to the best of their abilities.

Taiwan Dogs evolve with their environment. Affected severely by geography, they adapt to our ancestors'way of life and took up the role of hunters and guards.

Their endurance and skills are trained by working with people. From this working relationship, human and dog have developed mutual love, trust, reliance, obedience, responsibility, sharing and honor.

Although Taiwan Dogs are highly adaptable, their survival have always been closedly linked to humans, and their right to survive have been overtaken by the ability to adapt.

To do so, their thinking, intelligence and habits have all been heavily influenced by humans, some instincts even assimilated. The instinct to assimilate even surpasses human intelligence.

During their evolution process, Taiwan Dogs elevate instincts to superior vitality, also known as spiritual power. That's why living creatures perform differently in different surroundings, influenced by different factors.

How can foreign dogs whose appearance and character are influenced by totally different environments be compared to Taiwan Dogs?

Special Traits of Taiwan Dogs

Taiwan Dogs' perfect body, unsurpassed agility, senses of smell and hearing all make them the best hunting partner, especially in group hunting; they form a flawless net of attack.

They still maintain the wild nature of canine hierarchy and sense of team work. When hunting, they can use both their senses of smell and hearing, unlike many other hunting dogs who only rely on the sense of smell.

They are cool, logical, direct, and ambush and group hunt are their best games. Working with the aboriginal people as a flawless team, the dogs hardly ever let their prey escape. Therefore, Taiwan Dogs ability to survival in high mountains and in the wild is indisputable.

We are also finding out that Taiwan Dogs can be the closest friend in today's families. Being intelligent and able to understand human needs, they make the best candidate both for protection and for companionship.

They are short-haired, do not have a strong odor, medium-sized, eat mixed food and not too much of that make them perfect house pets.

They are also suitable as guard dogs and police dogs for their keen sense of smell and aggressive attack. They are slowly replacing the more traditional German Shepherds.

We hope that people who are also interested can extend their support and work with us for the preservation of Taiwan Dogs. We must justly recognize Taiwan Dogs' historical value. I spent decades visiting many aboriginal tribes and talked to many elders and experts.

Here are somecurrrent information aobut Taiwan Dogs in general. There will be a series of reports on Taiwan Dogs in the future, such as Taiwan Dogs' appearance, their sense of humor, how to pick the right pup, their guard dog ability, stories of their loyalty, and how Moon Howler does arithmetic andpsychic communication.

These are only but a few. Although my knowledge is quite limited, I would like to share it with the whole world in hope that Taiwan Dogs may become a member of the internationally recognized canine breed and establish their importance forever.
