Guarding the ammunition depot Taiwan dogs have special tricks
Chen Ming Nan's Ten Years of Raising Dogs
Airforce awards a special medal for breeding dogs for the country

Chen Ming Nan, a.k.a ¡§Brother Native Dog¡¨ in the dog raising world has been breeding pure bred Taiwan Native Dogs for over a decade. The loyalty, agility and speed of this breed attracted the attention from the airforce which asked Chen to raise a few Native Dogs to guard the ammunition depot.

The dogs have now been turned to the military for specialized training and shall become important soldiers in our national defense. Chen who admits that he is crazy about dogs, founded a Taiwan Native Dog Kennel on the hills of Yingo Township because they were on the verge of extinction. He specializes in breeding pure-breded Native Dogs.

Experts say that a good and pure Native Dog should have fine qualities such as a head like a viper, eyes like almonds with fierce and firm gaze, upright ears as thin as bat's, and a face as a fox with a long snout, a small and tight midriff, light feet, a machete tail, a double layered coat which is soft inside but tough outside, and a tongue with black spots or even totally black.

Besides these characteristics, they move very fast and can hear one million to one billion times better than human beings. They are also fiercely loyal and will willingly die for their masters. Such qualities make them the best guard dogs and hunting dogs.

After having inspected Chen's kennel a few months ago, the airforce ordered puppies from him in hope that they can become the airforce guard dogs. Chen agreed happily and mated two adult dogs with exceptional guard dog qualities. The puppies have now been turned over to the military for specialized training.

The military even awarded Chen with a plaque for his contribution. Having raised Native Dogs for over a decade, Chen says that he has always liked the loyalty in Taiwan Dogs. He had to travel to many aboriginal tribes forthem, and his first male dog is Hsiao Wu Fong.

The bitch Moon Howler is legendary because it could do arithmetics using its bark. Chen says Taiwan Native Dogs are very suitable for the local environment.

He would like to do more research in this field and has told Mr. Hsu, the Yingo Town Mayer, the idea of building a Taiwan Dog Museum to attract more people into knowing and liking to preserve Taiwan Dogs.
