Make a Good Dog Great

The first view of the homepage, Iams's company mission statement- “Make a Good Dog Great”

Iams is one of the world's most renowned pet food manufacturers founded by the animal nutritionist Paul Iams, hence the name Iams, in 1946 – in a small feed mill near Dayton, U.S. Mr. Iams developed the world’s first animal-based protein, dry dog food in 1950. He called it Iams 999. In 1969 Paul formulated a new dog food to be named Eukanuba, ("You-Kan-Noo-Bah"), which came from the word that grew out of the jazz culture. It was reserved for something that was "the tops" or "supreme" — whether it was the latest song or a fast car. In 1975,however, after weathering the price freeze, the company was reeling. Paul Iams, feeling that he had taken the company as far as it could go, decided to close the company rather than try to grow the business any further. Clay Mathile, who joined Iams in 1970, wanted to save it and purchased half of the company in 1975.

He became thesole owner and president in 1982. Growing from a $100,000 company in 1970 to $900 million in 1999, Mathile sold the company to Procter & Gamble (P&G) in September 1999. In July 2006 Procter & Gamble re-organized the Pet Health & Nutrition division into P&G Pet Care, consisting of the Iams and Eukanuba brands that are now selling in more than 70 countries around the world and employs over 25,000 full-time professional staffs.

The detail explanations of the importance of dog nutrition and how the well formulated food can improve the digestion and absorption of your dogs

Paul F. Iams Technical Center is the world-class development facility consists of nutritionists, veterinarians and food scientists dedicating in the pet nutrition and health care innovations with many unprecedented breakthrough achievements. The Iams website, www.iams.com, started out with the love for the animals and the goal to provide pet education to the public. The information on Imas web portal are edited by the animal scholars, breeding experts and others, it is this diligence that made Iams the global leader in the pet food industry.

The quality of the food impacts all of the dog's body functions, immune system for instance, and their health developments such as joints and muscle tissues

Iams's consistent conviction and mission not only apply to themselves but also to their partners: To enhance the well-being of pet health by providing world-class pet foods. Quality is the foundation to all businesses, it is also the guiding principle for all its employees, suppliers and resellers. Like Iams to their unwavering undertaking, our kennel has always been a firm believer that breeding does not equal to restoration work. The commitment to preserve the dog breed that had been lost for decades means finding the right bloodline and, bit by bit, bring back
the original qualities that are true to the Taiwan dog, one generation at a time.

Our best friends deserve the best

Satisfying the needs of people who love Taiwan Dog through multi-channel development, and our website is the extension of such purpose. The evolvement of this website is years of consultations, observations and experiences of selfless contributions from people who love Taiwan dog, scholar experts who share our vision and owners of the Taiwan dog who document every detail aspects of their dogs. Through the reports of the mass media, including Internet, we hope to send the message to the general public about the importance of Taiwan dog conservation. And hoping all dogs, not just Taiwan dog, can be loved as much as they love their owners.

The builds, variety of congenital differences, energy levels, physique sensitivities and others play the crucial partwhen designing food for your pets

The key success to all businesses is the combination of staff education and self-developments. Iams University was setup by Iams Company with such goal to extend the professional knowledge to all its employees and business partners (for example authorized dealers, retailers, veterinarians and pet owners).

Every year Iamsinvests twice the average spending on education than any other general public schools, and it has been praised bymagazines and books around the world as the eminent standard of corporate staff training. Like Iams, our kennel is dedicating to retain the complete breeding bloodline of Taiwan dog by setting up multiple conservation bases around the island for continuing testing and training. We believe conservation (including breed testing and training) work will take decades to complete. It is not the work of “do it today, done tomorrow”, nor with the fancy words that promised everything but deliver nothing. Perhaps the most overlooked fact about the conservation work by the general public is the amount of investments, both time and money, that needed to make the strong foundation to ensure the survival of such spicy. In our case, the survival of Taiwan dog breed is the success of our conservation kennel.

The nutrition needs of each dog all depends on their breed, age, physiological condition and the work load

Iams's team cooperation spirit expands to its suppliers and dealers to ensure the consistency of providing supreme quality pet food to their customers. The collaboration work also plays an important role in our kennel. Hsiao Wu Fong Taiwan Dog Conservation Kennel has been invited by both police and military units here in Taiwan to provide guard dogs for their stations and bases; as well as, dogs for the search and rescuing tasks. Our dogs have also joined various research projects conducted by both domestic and international academic organizations. Our work is not about commerce, nor are we a for-profit kennel. Our conservation work for Taiwan dog is the responsibility to our communities, research personnel, everyone who has our dogs and, most important of all, to this special breed that we called it our national treasure---Taiwan dog.

There are many types of nutrition and each has its own respective importance and reciprocities with one another that varies by the different need of each breed

What Make Your Dog Magnificent

Iams wasn't the first multinational pet food company that contacted us. But they did their homework. Prior to our first meeting, the Iams headquarter in U.S gathered, from various sources, information in regard to our kennel's reputation, dedication, efforts and the quality of our breed before sending one of their representatives for the preliminary contact. Once all the correlation data and information were collected, the Iams company started a series of verification process to ensure all reports were accurate before putting them up on their official website. The working attitude and the ethics of Iams surprised us, never have we thought that a company would be that rigorous on all aspects of information they are collecting. That was really an eye opener. During the first few meetings, Iams offered us the works that they had done on the pet food nutrition research, education and, of course, the message they are sending to all the pet owners all the world. The following meetings made us understood, and realized, the endeavors that Iams had committed to itself on finding a more perfect pet nutrition formula that will make our pets healthier in the years to come. The constructive bilateral talks and information exchange between us had also made Iams appreciated the multi-role capabilities of Taiwan dog and their uniqueness. But what excited us the most, also with our deepest gratitude, was the offering from Iams to use our Taiwan dogs as the foundation to design a new dog food formula specializes for breeds similar to Taiwan dog that traditionally was done with the references from breeds like German Shepherd (work dog, large-scale), Labrador or Golden Retriever (working and companion dog, large-scale), Border Collie (work dog, medium), Dachshund (working and companion dog, small to mid-size); as well as, Yorkshire or West Highland White Terrier (companion dog, small long hair breed). What a great honor, what a great significance for our kennel and the Taiwan dog.

Finally! The information of our pride – Taiwan Dog

Our national treasure - young and old

We always like to believe, and sometimes market, our work, or breed, is the best, second to none. If you would to ask anyone in Taiwan, or from Taiwan, about Taiwan dog, without hesitation, they would immediately give you a two-thumbs up. The same reaction would be true if asking Germans about the German Shepherd. Quite often
people in Taiwan are blinded by their love without realizing that the love has slowly creeping into a hindrance for breed like Taiwan dog to become a “great dog”, even a “best dog”, from being a “good dog”. Here in Taiwan we still have our differences on what makes Taiwan dog a true Taiwan dog, and how to best present this special breed
to the world. Perhaps the mutual respect and understanding is the best lubrication for all of us who love Taiwan dog to find the common ground in the near future. We also hope the meetings with the foreign experts from Iams alike would help resolve certain discrepancies that we have about Taiwan dog by implementing the unbiased
third-party perspectives. Like the motto of the veterinary scientist, Dr. Tomizawa Masaru from Japan, mentioned in his research on Taiwan dog: “all problems shall be overcome with the efforts of all people”.
